Three oils you need to add into your skincare

Three oils you need to add into your skincare

These oils are so popular in the skincare community because they just have so many benefits for your skin. We’re going to explore the uses of three oils that are used in a lot of the products we stock, these being rosehip, prickly pear and safflower seed oil and we’re going to break down why you need them in your skincare routine.

Rosehip, prickly pear and safflower seed oil are all very similar, so you can either use all of them within your skincare routine (as they are often combined with other ingredients) or simply use one if you prefer. All the oils are non-comedogenic which essentially means they won’t clog your pores, this is why they are suitable for all skin types and excellent choices for those who are acne or oily prone and worry that oils could make this worse. They are non-greasy oils, meaning they’re easily absorbed into skin, leaving you with a natural healthy looking glow.

Rosehip Oil

Possibly one of the most popular facial oils and we can fully understand why. Rosehip has numerous benefits for skin and can be used on any skin type, it’s known to help manage a variety of skin concerns too as it’s just so versatile and hardworking. It’s fantastic for hydrating dry skin, fading acne marks and reducing fine lines caused by sun damage. It’s enriched with skin-nourishing vitamins, antioxidants and essential fatty acids to promote healthy skin, so it’s no wonder the oil is as popular as it is.

Rosehip oil is naturally high in vitamins A and C. Vitamin A acts as a natural retinoid that fights ageing and encourages cell regeneration. Vitamin C also assists with treating signs of ageing and helps repair skin damage caused by UV rays (which can accelerate ageing if there is no sun protection in place - this is why SPF is so important!). Together these help to refine skin’s appearance, including minimising scars, dark spots and hyperpigmentation, all whilst brightening skin. It also has vitamin E which is well known for its anti-inflammatory properties to strengthen the skin barrier. The fatty acids found in rosehip oil help to keep skin hydrated and lock in moisture.

It makes an impressive facial oil, whether it’s a single-ingredient product or blended with other ingredients to create a multi-purpose product such as the MOA Aphrodite Facial Oil and Sarisha Green Goddess Glow Oil

Prickly Pear Seed Oil

This oil is becoming increasingly popular in skincare and there's a good reason for it. It’s similar to rosehip oil in terms of what benefits it has on skin and what ingredients can be found in the oil. Prickly pear seed oil contains high fatty acids, antioxidants and nutrients to enhance your skin. Again, it’s suitable for all skin types too so don’t worry if you have oily skin and you think an oil will make it worse - this just isn't the case, instead it can actually be more beneficial.

Vitamins A, C and E are antioxidants that protect the skin from everyday stress and ageing. Prickly pear has antibacterial properties that deeply cleanse skin and prevent breakouts so it’s a great ingredient for those who are more acne-prone. It’s highly moisturising as it contains high levels of linoleic acid which is an essential fatty acid that keeps skin hydrated and retains moisture. This acid has also been shown to diminish acne and prevent breakouts.

You can find prickly pear seed oil in a range of products, for example Evolve Daily Defence Moisture Mist, Codex Beauty Bia Facial Oil and MOA Queen Of The Night Treatment.

Safflower Seed Oil

Another popular oil is safflower seed oil which is lightweight and packed with linoleic and oleic acid. Not only is this oil found in skincare products, it’s also used in Beauty Kubes Solid Shampoo, it contains polyunsaturated fatty acids to promote healthy, shiny hair.

In skincare, safflower oil acts as an anti-inflammatory, perfect for soothing skin and any irritation. It’s a favoured oil for people prone to acne and breakouts as it features a high level of linoleic acid which helps to clear skin, unclog pores and maintain hydration. Moreover, the oil stimulates skin cell turnover, which helps to renew and brighten skin, leaving you with complete radiance.

You’ll find various products contain safflower oil, including Five Dot Botanics Deep Feed Nourishing Facial Serum, Five Dot Botanics Pure Rewind Restorative Mask and True Skincare Organic Balancing Safflower & Basil Facial Oil.
