Why you need to switch to a shampoo bar

Why you need to switch to a shampoo bar

Here at Persephone, it’s safe to say that we’re pretty big fans of shampoo bars. They are one of the first switches that we made whilst trying to get more sustainable with our personal hygiene routines. And whilst they may take a bit of getting used to, the recent rise in their popularity means that they’ve become much more effective.

In fact, we think that everyone should make the switch to a shampoo bar. Here’s why...

They’re better for the planet

According to SAS, “every day approximately 8 million pieces of plastic pollution find their way into our oceans.”

Switching to a bar to wash your hair is one way to make your daily routine much more eco-friendly. Often coming in either biodegradable aand recyclable cardboard packaging, they don’t add to our pollution problems and instead sit packaging-free in your shower waiting to be used.

They’re better for your hair

A lot of shampoos are filled to the brim with ingredients that can actually do more harm than good for the hair! For example, SLS (or sodium lauryl sulphate) is often used to create a good lather in shampoo products, but can also lead to itching and flaking of the scalp.

Shampoo bars are often formulated from more gentle and natural ingredients. Always check the label to be sure, though!

At Persephone, we’re committed to only stocking products that are SLS-free. That’s why we love the Kind2 shampoo bars, which not only work wonders on your locks, but are also completely natural and plastic-free.

They’re usually more cost-effective

Shampoo bars last much longer than bottles of shampoo for the most part! Kind2 shampoo bars offer around 60 washes per bar (!) which is the equivalent of two 250ml bottles of shampoo.

They’re perfect for travel

When it comes to traveling, not only are shampoo bars hugely convenient and light-weight, but they don’t add to your liquid restrictions on flights. They’re absolutely perfect if you’re travelling with limited space or hand-luggage only.
