How to transition your skincare routine for autumn

It's time to start thinking about how to transition your skincare routine for autumn. As the colder months draw nearer, our skin needs a little help adapting to the cold weather. Just like switching out our summer clothes for our winter clothes, our skincare benefits from a few small changes. Don’t be worried thinking that you have to completely switch up your routine, it’s just altering which type of formula you use, for example in the summer you’ve likely been using a lightweight moisturiser, but in autumn and winter you’re probably going to need something that’s a little bit richer and creamier. Cold weather often brings out dry skin, so you’re going to need more hydrating products to prevent dryness and irritation caused by the change in temperature.

Use a gentle cleanser

Choosing a gentle cleanser such as a balm or oil based formula is important to ensure you’re providing your skin with the hydration it needs during the cold, dry months without stripping your skin. We recommend the hydrating Evolve Gentle Cleansing Melt, crafted specifically for normal-dry skin. It uses pure plant based ingredients, including baobab and vanilla to truly nourish your skin and provide antioxidant protection. For an oil cleanser, the True Skincare Organic Clarifying Safflower and Geranium Cleansing Oil contains a powerful, hardworking blend of ingredients to leave your complexion feeling refreshed, hydrated and balanced. They both make excellent makeup removers, too.

Moisture, moisture, moisture

You may notice that your skin has reduced oil production during this time of year, which can lead to a dryer complexion. Five Dot Botanics Deep Feed Nourishing Facial Serum combines just five hardworking ingredients for intense hydration to soften dry skin and is packed full of antioxidants to protect against environmental damage. Like we mentioned earlier, you may want to think about switching your lightweight moisturiser to a thicker one to ensure skin is getting the hydration and moisture it craves in the cold. When skin is feeling dry, try the Evolve Daily Renewal Facial Cream which is rich and hydrating to nourish thirsty skin quickly. Using natural peptides, hyaluronic acid and argan oil, it’s crafted to soothe and repair skin whilst leaving it supple and plump.

Add in facial oils

Facial oils are the perfect companion for your skin in the colder months as they are packed full of ingredients to deeply nourish and transform your skin, they really are a skin saviour. If you aren’t already using facial oils, now is the time to start incorporating them into your skincare routine. Sarisha Green Goddess Glow Oil has been designed to soothe, calm and nourish any skin type. Featuring a rejuvenating combination of rosehip oil, prickly pear seed oil and blue tansy leaf, it’s bursting with vitamins, antioxidants and essential fatty acids. Replenish your skin’s natural moisture with MOA Queen Of The Night Treatment which restores skin overnight with its magical blend of botanical extracts and hyaluronic acid to leave an intensely hydrated and plump finish.

Don’t skip the SPF

Remember, although it may be the end of summer, SPF is still an essential in your skincare routine. Rain or shine, you should always be layering on sun protection everyday as the final step in your morning routine to not only minimise visible signs of ageing, but most importantly to protect your skin from UV radiation. These UVA and UVB rays can be just as harmful as any other time of the year so make sure you’re protecting your skin by using the Evolve Climate Veil Tinted SPF20 and Balmkind Alpine Rose and Lysine Lip Balm SPF20.

Take extra care of your lips and hands

Dry, cold weather can result in dry, chapped lips. Your lips are more prone to becoming drier in the cold weather as they aren’t able to replenish moisture on their own. This is why a lip balm should definitely be introduced into your routine as it works by soothing dry lips and helping to retain moisture, it’s an absolute essential in the colder seasons. Skin Sapiens Lip Balm uses ten plant based ingredients, including calendula flower extract, berry fruit wax and castor seed oil to hydrate lips and works hard to prevent dryness or chapping. Hands need to be looked after too, especially if you’re susceptible to dry, chapped skin. MOA offers some of the best multi purpose products, designed to be used on different parts of the body and to manage a variety of skin concerns. Help restore moisture with MOA The Green Fairy Hand and Lip Balm for two-in-one hand and lip protection to soothe any dryness or irritation. Unique absinthe extract combined with shea, cocoa butter and essential oils provides long-lasting moisture to delicate hand and lip areas.

Use a body hydrator

Just like switching up your face moisturiser, consider using a rich body hydrator to make sure skin is getting enough hydration. The UpCircle Body Cream uses repurposed date seed extract which has soothing anti-inflammatory properties and shea butter which is high in vitamins and essential fatty acids to enhance the skin's moisture barrier. It’s fast absorbing and will leave your skin feeling hydrated and super soft.
