A sustainable shower routine

A sustainable shower routine

Often, the most impactful eco-friendly switches that we can make are the ones that will cause changes to our daily lives.

That’s why the shower is one of the best places to start when it comes to cutting down on plastic and generally reducing your waste. Since you probably use these products on a regular (if not daily!) basis, making your shower routine more sustainable really does add up. Being low-waste and sustainably minded doesn't mean you have to indulge yourself any less!

If you don’t know where to start, this is the blog post for you. Let us walk you through every single step of an earth-friendly shower routine:

Step 1: Swap out your shower gels

If you’re anything like us, there was probably a time when your shower was full to the brim with plastic bottles. It might still be!

To cut down on your waste, switch shower gels for soap bars. We love the ones from UpCircle which come packaged in recyclable card. To add a hit of indulgence to your shower, try out the Chocolate Charcoal formula which deeply cleanses the skin and smells simply edible.

Step 2: Scrub away, without the plastic

Using a body scrub is not only a brilliant way to revitalise the complexion and wake you up in the morning, but also helps to get rid of dirt, grime and dead skin.

As a more conscious alternative, opt for Upcircle’s body scrubs. Crafted from repurposed coffee grounds and chai spices and with eco-friendly packaging, these bad boys are an absolute essential.

Step 3: Use solid shampoo and conditioner bars

Want to ditch a shampoo bottle but not compromise on results? No problem. One box of the Beauty Kubes shampoo comes with 27 individual cubes, and is the equivalent of one 250ml bottle of shampoo. Plus, the normal-dry formulation smells like Turkish Delight, and is our editor Laura's favourite shower treat. As another bottle off the shelf, choose Kind2’s wonderfully effective shampoo and conditioner bars that are perfect for every hair type. Cruelty-free, low-waste and soap-free. What’s not to love?

Step 4: Finish with a moisture hit

Step out of the shower and seal in moisture with a body oil.

We love the MOA Hello Sunshine oil, which brings a little bit of summer to every day. Formulated with a skin nourishing marjoram, lemongrass and eucalyptus, this is the perfect way to round things off after you’ve scrubbed away dead skin.
