Why you actually do need an eye cream

Why you actually do need an eye cream

If you spend any amount of time online, we’ve no doubt that you’ve heard someone talking about the importance of an eye cream. In fact, sometimes it can feel like every skincare influencer and esthetician is shouting about it!

Why though?

We’re totally in agreement that eye cream should be a staple in your skincare routine, but wanted to break down why it’s so, so important.

What’s different about the eyes?

The skin around the eyes is actually one of the thinnest on the body. This means that it’s more delicate, making it prone to showing the signs of ageing.

If you treat this area in exactly the same way as the rest of your face, it’s highly likely that the eyes will get wrinkles first!

On top of this, the skin around the eyes is simply moving more. Every time you switch facial expression - whether it’s a smile or a frown! - the muscles in that area move. This naturally leads to the loss of collagen and elasticity, again making wrinkles near to the eyes more common.

How eye creams work

These skincare staples show the eye area the extra bit of love that it needs to help prevent those premature signs of ageing, often through a boost in hydration. Plus, they can also improve dark circles and puffiness.

What’s not to love?

When should you start using an eye cream?

The sooner the better! It’s easier to prevent signs of ageing than it is to reverse them. If possible, use an eye cream before you feel as though you need one.
